Irish Passport Photos

Find answers about Irish passport photo requirements, printed passport photos, digital passport photo codes and Irish online passport applications.

Are Photo-Me Irish passport photos suitable for online passport applications?

Yes. Selected Photo-Me booths can provide a digital passport photo code for Irish online passport applications. This code can be used when applying online through the Irish passport application service. Availability may vary by booth, so please check your nearest location before travelling.

Why is my Irish passport photo code not working?

1.Check your code format: Your code must follow case-sensitive guidelines and contain exactly 22 characters, split into 6 boxes, for example: 1PMI 96EN 0602 1909 37Y7 02. Here’s the breakdown:

Box 1: Always starts with 1PMI, Box 2: Machine code (e.g. 96EN), Box 3: Date the photo was taken (e.g. 0602 for June 2nd), Box 4: Time the photo was taken (e.g. 1909 for 7:09 PM), Box 5 & 6: 6 random characters (e.g. Y702). ⚠️ Important: Be careful not to mix up similar characters like 1 & I or 0 & O.

2. Have you waited 24–48 hours? During peak periods (like summer), our booths process up to 6,000 requests per day, which can cause delays of up to 48 hours for photos to reach the Irish Passport Office. Please try your code intermittently within this 48-hour window before contacting us.

3. Still not working after 48 hours?  Please contact us, and we’ll investigate further.

Can I get Irish passport photos at a Photo-Me booth?

Yes. Photo-Me booths in Ireland can provide Irish passport photos suitable for passport applications. You can use a booth to take official passport photos in minutes, with no appointment needed. Use our store locator to find your nearest Photo-Me booth and check which services are available before travelling.

What size are Photo-Me Irish passport photos?

Our official ID photos adhere to strict international standards, with a photo frame size of 45mm x 35mm (ICAO compliant) and a head size (chin to crown) between 26mm and 30mm.

What happens if my Irish passport photo is rejected?

If your Irish passport photo is rejected because of a technical issue with the booth or the photo output, please contact Photo-Me customer support. We will review the issue and advise you on the next steps. Please keep your receipt or any reference information from the booth.

When will my photo be available to use on the DFA website?

In most cases, your Photo-Me passport photo should be available on the DFA website a few minutes after it has been taken. In some cases, such as during busy periods or if there is an unstable connection, it may take longer. If your code is still not working after 48 hours, please contact us for support.

Digital photo copy

Learn how to receive a digital copy of your photo for online applications and other uses.

How will I receive my digital photo copy?

If you choose the digital photo copy service, your photo will be sent to you by email. This is different from a digital passport photo code, which is used for Irish online passport applications. Please make sure you enter your email address correctly at the booth and check your inbox and spam or junk folder after completing your purchase.

Is a digital photo copy the same as a digital passport photo code?

No. A digital passport photo code is used for Irish online passport applications. A digital photo copy is a digital version of your photo that may be used for other online forms or applications, depending on the requirements of the organisation requesting it.

What should I do if I have not received my digital photo copy?

If you have not received your digital photo copy, please first check your spam or junk folder, as digital photo emails may sometimes be filtered there. If it is not in your inbox, spam or junk folder, please contact Photo-Me customer support with the booth location, date, time and payment information if available, so we can investigate the issue.

Can I get a digital copy of my photo?

Yes. Photo-Me booths can provide a digital copy of your photo by email. This option is available for official photo services such as Irish passport photos and ID photos. Please make sure to select the digital copy option before completing your payment, as it cannot be added afterwards.
